Hike

We left to go on a hike to Kentucky Falls on Memorial Day around 1:00 and got there around 2:30. On the way there the road was so horrible. I get carsick on windy roads; this was the PERFECT road for me to get sick on. Fortunately I didn't throw up or anything, I felt better once we got out of the car. But when I mentioned that I felt sick, Ben said, "you're not carsick, you're vansick", since we were driving a van. Matt and Ben then made up all these different sicknesses, like: helicopter sickness, bike sickness, plane sickness, and you even have to name the model number of the plane if you tell someone what kind of plane sickness you have. I have the weirdest brothers. A while later Matt was bored and said, "I have bored sickness."

In the car we played with cards. It is kind of hard to play with cards when you're driving, so we played a simple game of Go Fish. I won the first game, and Ben and I tied the next game so Matt picked a card to see who got the highest one, and Ben won.
Ben has a really fat arm! It looked normal in person, but when I took the picture it looked like that. My camera must have had a "fat" setting or something, hahaha.

Ben asked Matt for a cookie and Matt was trying to think of a new game we should play, so he kind of forgot about Ben's cookie. He was making up a game and telling it to Ben and he's like, "how does that sound?" Ben said, "I don't know, but did you get my cookie yet?" I don't think he was too interested in the game, he just wanted his cookie lol.
The snacks were in the way back in an ice chest and Matt kept getting into them. One time when he was getting into it, the ice chest kept closing on him and hurting his hands. It happened like, 5 times in 5 minutes. It was probably telling him to stop eating. Matt had a bag of hershey candy bars and he was trying to find a certain one but could not find it. He kept pulling them out and it'd be the wrong one, it happened like 20 times.

Matt and I saw a sign that said "Bus Turn Around" and we were saying what it meant. I said I thought it meant buses couldn't go there but everyone else could, and they only made the sign to make fun of the bus as it turned around. Matt said he thought it meant that the bus was a bully and the sign was warning us to turn around cause the bus is ahead. I think I like Matt's more.

Back to the bad windy road. There were so many turns and a lot of them were sharp turns. On one of the turns this car just appeared right there and we were close to hitting it. The road was also very narrow so we could easily hit a car, and it was a long fall. Matt and Ben were joking and saying, "what if we hit a passing car off the edge and dad's like, "whoops, sorry buddy." Then another car passed by us and Matt and Ben were like, "what if dad said, "there goes another one." Meaning that he hit another car off the edge. Once again, I have weird brothers. A lot can happen in the car though. Here's another thing that happened to us while driving. Because of the sharp turns, we had to use our brakes a lot and they started smoking. But we made it to the destination ok.

I will show you a video of the road. (Note: The road was worse than what you see on the video.....trust me.)

Now you guys kind of know what the road was like, it's always worse in person than in camera though.

I just thought of another story to tell you that happened in the car. Matt was saying, "what if there was a motorcycle gang and they were driving on these narrow roads and went around smashing everyone's windows?" For some reason that made me laugh really hard, Ben too. It was the way he said it. I was laughing so hard that it was making my stomach feel worse and I was like, "stop making me laugh, Matt! I'm going to throw up!" That made Matt and Ben laugh even more, making me laugh as well. I was so glad to finally get there! I call that road, the "Death Road".

When we got out of the car we saw all these cars parked with no one in them. Ben and I were saying, "these are probably all stranded people because that road ruined their car like it did to ours." Here are all of the "stranded cars".
They're checking our car when we got there because of the smoking.

Before we went on our hike we used the bathroom first. It was so disgusting in there, and I saw two coffee mugs in there and I was thinking, "who drinks coffee in here??" Really, I have no idea why they would do that. Unless they were using the bathroom as a trash, which would be wrong too.
We went to the Lower and North Fork Smith Falls. So it was a total of a 4 mile hike. As we started our hike we saw this couple with a big dog. The dog was barking and growling at us and it looked mean. The owners said the dog is very friendly and would never bite anyone. Later on we passed them again and the dog was growling more and it was trying to come up to us, and the owners laughed and said the same thing. I was thinking, "yeah, very friendly dog. It looks like it wants to eat us."
So there's a lesson for all of you. Don't believe people when they say their dog will never bite. Because a lot of times they do bite.

I'm going to stop typing for a little bit and just show some pictures.
Matt is trying to see if there is any food in the box. We were saying it was a bear feeder, (but it really isn't.) We just said that because my mom saw a sign on the way here and it said "Bear Country."
I saw a native. He was waiting to attack someone.
That one rock looks like a turtle shell.
Matt broke the tree!

There were a total of 3 waterfalls on this hiking trail. Here is the first one. It was really cool.
I like this picture, you can see my dad on the bottom. It may be a little hard to see him though. He looks like an adventurer.

We're pretending that I'm helping Matt over.
We left after that to see the other two waterfalls.
We stopped at this bridge to take some pictures.

We're getting closer to the other waterfalls.
You have to go down these steps to get to the waterfalls. I kind of stayed behind a little bit to get more pictures, and everyone else went ahead to the waterfalls. When I was ready to go I headed down the stairs and there were two paths to take. I stood there for about 2 minutes wondering which one I should take; but finally I yelled out to everyone to see where they were, and they told me to take the right path. I almost took the left one though. Good thing I didn't, haha. I would have been lost!!! No....actually I would have turned around. I just like making things dramatic. These two waterfalls are from different rivers but join together. It is really cool how there are two right by eachother.

We ate lunch by the waterfalls.

I was filming on my camera as my dad took this.

We headed back up after lunch. It was harder going up because it's mostly all up hill, and I also had a pounding headache. So it was no fun. The way down was much easier since I had no headache, and it was downhill. I like to run downhill, it's fun. Most of the time going down I was ahead of everyone else, so we had walkie talkies.
Us on the bridge again.
We got back to our car around 6:00 I think. Oh and Matt and my mom both had slipped and fell. Well, my mom was walking and I think her stick broke and she kind of fell but didn't really get hurt. I think her arm just hurt a little. But Matt said he was ahead with Ben (on the way back) and he was standing on the edge and the ground broke from underneath him and he fell but he got a hold on and pulled himself up. He said if he fell he would have got hurt kind of bad. These are the only scratches he got:
He also got some little ones on his other knee. He saw these pictures and was like, "they don't look as cool as in person." Lol.

Matt and Ben had found a really big leaf on the way back. I think they're bigger than our leaves that Dylan thought could break a world record. Check it out, Dylan!
We got in the car to go back home, and after about 10 minutes of driving our brakes started smoking again. My dad got out of the car to check them and he saw flames. He quickly got our water bottles and put the flames out. It was the two front brakes. They were steaming hot so we couldn't drive for a while. So we were kinda stranded because it was on a road where hardly anyone drives on, and there is no phone service. My parents walked a little ways down the road to see how much further we have on this windy road, and Matt, Ben, and I stayed by our car. The boys played frisbee for a little while then we made a very short movie about us being stranded.

The movie didn't really get finished because my parents came back and told us to get in the car and that we were going to try to drive the rest of the way. Here is the movie we made.

Matt and Ben found this "survival kit" thing. I forgot what kind of stuff it had in it, but I know it had a heating pad in it.We did make it home ok around 10:00. Besides all of the problems we had, it was a very fun Memorial Day!

That was a cool post about your hike. I really liked the two waterfalls they were awesome. I am glad you guys were okay after your brakes started smoking. I can only imagine being stranded in the middle of nowhere!! Us city girls would be like crying for help! hehe and no cell phone service we would go crazy! lol

@ Megan - Thanks, it was an awesome hike that made it an awesome post :D
Yeah lol, obviously we weren't prepared when we got stranded since we're eating pinecones :D

You guys totally should come on a hike with us :) it'd be so awesome and fun!
Either you guys come here, or we go there, I just want to see you guys.
Love ya too!

@ Kristen - I know, the waterfalls were so cool :D
I'm glad we're ok too. We didn't really panic, well my parents kind of did but not us kids. Our reaction was like, "I'm bored....let's make a movie." Haha! You city girls, crying for help lol. It's funny because I just watched New In Town with Ashley today and it's about a city girl in Minnesota and she hates it there cause it's in the country. So it's funny that you said something about city girls crying for help.

Dude I was like "Gasp!" when I read that your brakes were on fire! That post was the best! LOL! And Brother Matt! I thought you said you like the bugs! That would have been funny if you said "We've been eating pine cones and bugs." But that would be gross at the same time too! Lol! Miss you So much! I also miss Camp Lane! :.(.. My man is supposed to be crying in case you didn't know. TTYL!!

Bye!
Oh ya! This is Kara. LOL! Again!

@ Kara - We kind of were like *gasp* when my dad said that too. He just stopped the car and then said, "Janni! Do we have an extinguisher? Our brakes are on fire!" We were all like, "wha??"
It wouldn't be all gross to eat bugs, I mean, what else do you eat when you have no food? I'd rather eat bugs than die from starvation.
This is how you do the "crying man face" :'(
At least, that's how my friends do it.

Good stuff. That was a really cool hike, except for the drive. I wish we had our dvd player. I love going on long hikes like that one. Especially when you see three waterfalls. The scratches I got were cooler in person. Anyways, cool long post Caddie.

Wow, Caddie, another great mega post. One of my favorite parts was "My name is Wilma" and when Ben was like "I WIN!" Now I feel like I was part of the good times. Gooood times. That hike would have been really fun.

I noticed that I told the twins that we didn't make a big deal when our brakes got caught fire, but I told Kara that we were like, "*gasp*" What I meant was when my dad first told us we kind of were surprised, but while we were stranded we were bored and my parents were still the same as when it first happened. We weren't super surprised though, I was just thinking, "great, now we won't get home as soon." Lol.
